The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 加菲太适合扮演这个角色，演技好、与原型像。
①大学时演的第一部剧就是本片主角写的Rent，②餐厅忙碌的段落也让我想起了在当年在中餐厅打工的日子，③主角的状态也是让人羡慕的，他付不起房租但仍坚持创作，而我付不起房租却仍麻木不仁…④所以就个人而言是部情怀片，暂时无法客观对待
未必是最好的影片，却是当下最难得，最契合个人情绪状态的电影。同片中的主人公一样，在某项事业上投入了数年的时间精力，却没有得到任何回报，而身边所有美好的一切也一点点从自己生命中逝去。到底是再投入数年时间，还是退出这个行业另谋出路呢？我的人生又还有几个年头允许自己这么去挥霍消磨呢？
严格来讲，这是一部挺套路的电影，是关于一个天才，在他传奇般的陨落之前，如何登上巅峰的故事。不过天才的种种疯魔，还是丰富了这个套路的骨架。
可能是这类故事我真的看太多了，不管有多喜欢seasons of love，对这部的感受也只是一般【当然有的歌还是不错的】
艺术创作者具社会责任感是好事，但请先跳出自我感动的圈子，通篇现实与理想的矛盾撞击，关于所谓的“关注社会问题”的毒品和艾滋等只存在于枝蔓当中些微带过，如果不了解Jon的生平，也很难理解他的年龄焦虑。拍摄手法和布景还是太舞台，包括加菲的表演在内重点都在于谷情绪，创作者的传记侧重在创作是无可厚非，但对于人物塑造会不会太单薄？还有最重要的，音乐真的过耳即忘，也不是不好，就是还不够。我个人是很能get那种燃烧生命为了一件事的人物或作品，但不包括这一部。
音乐剧改成电影，又在电影里演音乐剧，然后穿插着一些生活片段，实在是没什么感觉。
歌曲的旋律不错，但歌词更像口水歌，至于人物原型，由于对舞台剧零认识，艺术家的悲歌，作品都是创作者死后才能发扬光大，身价倍增，因为已绝迹！
这种人社会里有不少，可惜能冒尖的真是凤毛麟角；有人为他树碑立传，也不枉他人世走一圈了。
拥有非常饱满的情绪，但是音乐剧电影，，，，，以后还是绕道走。
音乐及演唱是还不错的，接地气，然而电影载体挺不适合这种形式手法的，结构上不断间离，观众不断出戏，没法持续投入情境，另外剧情也是美式套路，梦想现实，爱情友情，无甚新意，还被大段的音乐冲散，老实说，直接编成舞台音乐剧大概效果好得多
7.5/10，原来是传记电影。tick,tick持续催促的感觉是一直在的，也喜欢以无数的问号作为结尾。

因为是真实故事加一星，而且我还真的看过吉屋出售的音乐剧。整体是音乐剧形式的演出。
体验到了歌剧的感染力，有新意，但仍没有跳脱出传统歌舞类型的框架，放在今年来看已经是佼佼者了。首先加菲的的形象从彼得帕克开始就一直非常适合这种埋头苦干的草根设定，确实是这部影片的不二人选，在影片中一展其别开生面的嗓音有如专业选手，LMM将拉森的歌曲几乎一比一地搬上大银幕并赋予其极大的生命力，围绕生前遗憾的展现不会太过挣扎，而是用拼搏奋斗的献身精神去回应外界的感慨，反而凸显其的传奇性 。泳池五线谱化为创作灵感的设计着实是让人眼前一亮了，献给所有对百老汇舞台抱有激情的创作者和观众，对比今年另一部改编之作《健听女孩》也收获了丰厚的口碑，可能在疫情之年西方世界真的很需要这样重拾热情的话题之作吧。
一方面要有艺术天赋，另一方面要有恒心和运气。第一个方面就已经淘汰掉这世上99.99%的人了。

稍微有点触动的是中间分手一段，争吵及关系的崩塌和后来以此改编成的演出唱段交叉呈现，情境基调的反差高效带出主题性。至于其他和整体……听听歌就好了。
创作者真的就是一句表扬都是动力，不需要他人认可的创作者说不存在的，抱着女朋友想着创作那一幕真的很灵，这个人，很立体。
算是传记片，展示Jon的努力与挣扎，对于年龄和目前困境的焦虑，对未来的迷茫，对朋友、爱人离世离去的不舍，虽然塞进去“美国梦”跟同性恋的内容，但是不影响片子本身的质量，自我探索跟坚持是永恒的主题，不单单是“美国梦”才有的
