The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 有挺高的期待的，但是看完之后觉得很一般。从家庭的角度去挖掘同性的故事确实是一个新的尝试，但是成品质量就很差了。好在，好在，最后两个爸爸没有俗套的和好。

养育大于生育。很抓马，一场同性婚姻出轨引发的一连串事件，最后不仅双方不爱了，连养育多年的儿子也不是亲生的。那又怎样，儿子也是他们曾经爱的见证

抓马是抓马，里面的人和感情都很温柔。年轻人的爱情友情真是美好，成年人的感情很复杂，也很美好。爱情会消失，但是千丝万缕的爱不会。

题材可真好啊，关于爱关于同性家庭与代孕孩子之间的故事。虽然无法认同“出轨是两个人的问题”这种观点，但看见西蒙尼和保罗泄愤似的倒掉红酒和剪烂衣服的幼稚行为还是忍不住笑出来。在轻松愉快甚至是搞笑的氛围里去柔和的告诉所有人：我们是因为爱而组建的家庭。不是血缘绵延，而是千丝万缕诚挚的爱。哪怕最后分崩离析，但爱永在。爬山三人组与浴室三人的搞笑场景都让人捧腹不止。（ps.女主是南茜的情史里的flo！！巨好看！！pps.01:47:14有小彩蛋关于「愛什麼時候會結束」
我居然提前猜到了，孩子和两个爸爸没有血缘关系。
很轻松，沉甸甸的东西干脆全都藏了起来，千丝万缕的联结会带来一切又消解一切。
除了摄影以外都很平庸，尤其加上科恩电影的话唠属性，更像是在听一个故事
想了又想还是给四星，对电影来说确实有点不太正常了，对话剧来说更为适合。要是有一天舞台剧的场景能迅速变换，这样拍绝对没错。
不仅仅是同性家庭会遇到婚后几十年，爱情被消磨殆尽，何去何从的问题，所有家庭都有这样的困境。青少年的性向、友谊、爱情，那么多不确定和承诺、责任，与中年人的困境遥相呼应，而形成他们后来地复杂局面，不也是青葱年少时光的产物吗？也有社会问题，性少数群体组建的家庭，怎么写出生证，也是一个争议不断的话题，尽管生养都有责任，但也仅仅是一部分人需要考虑的问题。后面的反转非常有趣，深化了主题。
